SHORT DESCRIPTION
The project rejuvenates an historic building, blending history, culture, and commerce. The original Polo restaurant kitchen, full of memories of the city, was converted into a gathering place for the basketball culture. Beyond a spatial makeover, it embodies the brand's humanistic ethos. Authenticity, storytelling, and timeless design drive this endeavor. To harmonize with the building's patina and brand essence, we incorporated recycled wood, distressed ironwork, and raw aluminum shelves, creating a tactile narrative of time. This juxtaposes with the modern cityscape, offering consumers an experience beyond the renovation. During the design process, the original building has undergone numerous changes, resulting in uncertainties in the original building structure and awkward utilization of partial spaces. Through a deep understanding of the brand's needs, we ingeniously utilized various transmission devices to make full use of each space, maximizing both usage and storage. We do not advocate straightforwardly promoting the brand's basketball stories, but rather subtly narrate them to our guests through details. For instance, the stone lions in the transformed Suzhou garden are depicted with basketballs under their feet, and the walls are adorned with old newspapers from the 1990s featuring basketball news from abroad. These subtle touches directly touch the hearts of people. Eco-friendliness and sustainability underpin our collaboration. Reclaimed wood pieces form storage and displays, while walls involves only surface cleaning and retain their raw charm, minimizing carbon footprint. Even our transmission equipment utilizes mechanical principles to enable manual operation.By retaining the skylights on the top of the original building, we allow more natural light to enter, maximizing energy savings during the day. We believe that preservation and reuse represent the most minimal energy consumption.
