SHORT DESCRIPTION
The project portrays a philosophical vision of “Inner peace awakens a sense of all things,” reimagining Jiangnan’s refined elegance in a contemporary context. The tea pavilion, steeped in Eastern essence, releases the vertical permeability of the landscape. Within it, five realms of traditional refined living—books, music, flowers, wine, and tea—are interwoven into a flowing scene of elegant gatherings, where objects, ambiance, and spirit are poetically elevated into philosophical resonance. When materials transcend their physicality, space becomes a spiritual medium that nurtures the soul. Textures drawn from local vernacular are reinterpreted through a contemporary lens. The translucent texture of luminous paper walls recalls traditional window lattices; tea tables in white and green jade quietly converse in warmth and elegance; silk weaves are reimagined as glass inlaid with metal threads. Handcrafted celadon tiles in shades of green envelop the backdrop wall at the bar area, evoking a breathing jade forest that seems to whisper with mountain breezes. A grand silk lantern descends like a scroll from the clouds, its form and pattern etched upon mulberry silk, which echoes ancient Qushui Liushang gatherings, where literati composed verses along winding streams as wine cups drifted past. AN LOUNGE is not a static vessel—it is the flowing poetry of Jiangnan. From Ru celadon to silk gauze, from Zhuangzi’s philosophical wisdom to the refined literati spirit in the Wei and Jin dynasties, the project translates Shaoxing’s cultural genes into a tangible, modern way of life. True tranquility lies not in retreating from the world, but in the shared breath between humans and nature—within the smallest, most intimate spaces.
